Rep. Brent Barton
District 26, Clackamas, Sandy, & Hood River
A lawyer and community activist, Brent was elected to the Oregon House in November 2008. Brent serves as vice-chair of the Business & Labor Committee and on the Judiciary Committee. Brent is also a member of the Oregon Criminal Justice Commission and the Willamette River Cleanup Authority.
Brent is a third-generation Oregonian. Brent's father went to school in Estacada, where Brent's grandfather worked as a logger. Brent attended Oregon public schools and went on to earn both his bachelor's and master's degrees at Stanford University. After college, Brent studied politics at Cambridge University before graduating from Harvard Law School.
When the legislature is not in session, Brent is a lawyer specializing in complex business problems and dispute resolution. Brent regularly provides free legal services to low-income clients and non-profit organizations. As a volunteer serving on the Board of Directors of the Oregon Bus Project, Brent has canvassed the state, listening to community concerns, helping register more than 20,000 new voters. In addition, Brent volunteers to teach government and law in high school classrooms and otherwise engage new participants in the political process.
